Crested geckos are arboreal and nocturnal, meaning they spend most of their time in the trees and are most active during the night. Crested Gecko Care Guide

Enclosure Size

Juveniles: Minimum 30 x 30 x 45 cm enclosure.

Adults: Minimum 45 x 45 x 60 cm (larger enclosures are always better).

A screened or glass enclosure with good ventilation is ideal.

Substrate

• Coconut fiber, reptile carpet, or paper towels are recommended as substrates.
• Avoid loose substrates that can cause impaction if ingested.

Hides & Climbing

• Provide branches, vines, and live or artificial plants for climbing and security.
• One or two hides may be provided, but Crested Geckos tend to be more active on vertical surfaces and may not use them often.

Humidity

• Daytime Humidity: 50-70%
• Nighttime Humidity: 60-80%
• Achieved by misting regularly.
• Mist 1-2 times daily, or use an automated misting system to maintain humidity.
• Keep a shallow water dish available for drinking.

Lighting & Temperature

• UVB: Not strictly required but beneficial for overall health. Use a low-UVB bulb (2.0 or 5.0).
• Ambient Temperature: 22-26°C.
• Night Drop: No lower than 18°C.

Diet

• Food: Commercial Crested Gecko Diet (CGD), fruit mixes, and live insects like crickets, silkworms, and dubia roaches.
• Feeding Schedule:
• Juveniles: Every other day.
• Adults: 2-3 times a week.
• Offer CGD as a primary food source and insects as occasional treats.
• Supplementation:
• Supplements are typically not necessary when feeding a good-quality CGD. However, dust insects with calcium without D3 once a week.

Water & Hydration

• Provide misting and a shallow water dish for hydration. Crested geckos drink droplets of water off surfaces rather than from standing water in bowls.

Handling

• Minimal handling is recommended, as Crested Geckos can get stressed if handled too much.
• When handling is necessary, let the gecko climb onto your hand rather than grabbing it.
